Invest and Trade WA hosts energy sector briefing for EXA international delegates

Invest and Trade Western Australia (WA) hosted an energy sector briefing for international delegates attending Energy Exchange Australia (EXA) on 9 March 2026.

The Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED), on behalf of the WA Government, is the proud Principal Sponsor of EXA, Australia’s premier energy supply chain event.

Since 2023, Invest and Trade WA has hosted a delegate briefing alongside the EXA program to provide a high-level overview of the unique energy opportunities available in WA.

This year, international delegates gained greater insight into investment and trade opportunities in WA’s energy sector, and strategies guiding the State’s renewable energy transition.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of Western Australia, Mr Daniel Pastorelli MLA gave an address on behalf of the Premier that highlighted the unique opportunity EXA 2026 provides to engage with industry leaders, explore emerging technologies, and foster connections that will shape the future of the sector.

Simone Spencer, Acting Director General, DEED, provided a detailed introduction to WA’s economy and the strategies guiding its diversification and decarbonisation approach.

Ms Spencer also participated in a panel discussion exploring how WA is uniquely positioned to fuel the global energy transition.  She was joined by:

  • Jai Thomas, Deputy Director General, Coordinator of Energy, Energy Policy WA, DEED;

  • Tim Bray, Deputy Director General, PoweringWA, DEED; and

  • Nicole Roocke, CEO, Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia.

The panel discussed how WA’s stable and diversified economy, combined with its abundant natural resources well-suited for renewable energies, position the State as an ideal investment destination. They also emphasised how these same strengths make WA a trusted and reliable energy partner well into the future.
