Western Australia’s tech talent arrive on the international stage

Some of Western Australia’s smartest tech talent has represented the State at a global technology festival.

The first ever virtual London Tech Week (LTW) was held in 2020 and remained an online event this year for international participants due to COVID-19 restrictions.

This year’s agenda focused on sustainability, inclusivity and resilience to address cross-border challenges and support economic recovery from the global pandemic.

Ten WA start-up companies hoping to scale-up and expand into the UK were among 140 Australian and New Zealand tech companies who participated in the UK Department for International Trade’s (DIT) program.

Applicants were selected based on their readiness for UK expansion, from areas including creative technology, digital health and wellness, future technology and impact technology.

In partnership with DIT, the Invest and Trade WA team hosted a pre-mission briefing for successful applicants on 2 September.

Applicants then attended a three day, virtual mission program online from 22-29 September.

WA was represented by a diverse tech group specialising in:

  • Digitised medical packaging
  • Cyber security
  • Platforms for social media education and community space bookings
  • Software solutions for home building, distributed energy projects, research organisations, recruitment and visual logistics

Kristian Dawson, Executive Director of Invest and Trade WA at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, congratulated the WA participants for representing the State in front of a global audience.

“Invest and Trade WA is pleased to support the virtual mission and these WA companies as they seek to grow their business in the UK market,” said Kristian.

“The initiative is an example of the Western Australian Government’s Diversify WA framework, which is focused on creating a more diverse economy by supporting growth within the State’s priority sectors.”

Invest and Trade WA is a global gateway for Australian and international businesses to connect and establish trade and investment partnerships with the State.
