The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation hosted the German Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Dr Franziska Brantner at a Hydrogen and Critical Minerals Workshop on 5 April 2023.
The workshop included a roundtable discussion with the Hon Roger Cook MLA, Deputy Premier; Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade; Hydrogen Industry; Tourism; and Science providing an opening address and the Hon Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Corrective Services; and Industrial Relations addressing the roundtable.
The roundtable discussion centred on future collaborations between Western Australia and Germany to support the hydrogen and critical minerals as both regions move towards a decarbonised future.
The event also provided a networking opportunity for more than 30 senior business leaders from Germany and Western Australia to connect and share industry insights.
The workshop was a unique opportunity to deepen government and business ties in the green hydrogen, critical minerals and renewable energies sectors.
Germany is Western Australia’s 13th largest trading partner, with a new Invest and Trade WA office expected to open in Frankfurt this year.
During the Australian Hydrogen Conference in December last year, the Western Australian Government signed a trilateral international study between the Port of Rotterdam and the German Federal Minister for Education and Research to look at fast-tracking hydrogen exports from the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area to Germany and the Netherlands.
Western Australia is poised to become a key player in the supply chain to support the global renewable energy transition.
With our abundant critical minerals, skilled workforce, and innovative technologies, Western Australia is set to be a global leader in the emerging renewable hydrogen industry while working to attract green energy assembling and manufacturing investment into our State.
