Simone Spencer | Deputy Director General - Strategy, Performance and International Engagement
Simone is the Deputy Director General, Strategy, Performance and International Engagement at the Western Australian Department of Energy and Economic Diversification. Simone and her team shape and align strategy, policy, planning, evaluation and communication across DEED to ensure effective delivery and resource utility while leading the Government’s investment, trade and international engagement agenda.
Key areas of focus for Simone and her team include economic diversification, industry decarbonisation and fostering a cohesive approach to the State’s long-term economic development including leading Invest and Trade Western Australia, the State’s ‘front door’ for investors and exporters.
Western Australia and Singapore forge partnership to drive innovation
Western Australia has taken further steps to elevate and strengthen its innovators and startups through a new partnership with Action Community for Entrepreneurship Singapore Ltd (ACE.SG).
On Monday 2 December 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) Director General Ms Rebecca Brown PSM and Mr Patrick Lim, Chief Executive Officer of ACE.SG.
ACE.SG is a leading trade association representing Singapore’s startup ecosystem and is managing ‘Stage One’, an initiative by Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Economic Development Board.
The MOU aims to foster innovation and create opportunities for startups and entrepreneurs in both regions through leveraging knowledge and skill sharing, and promoting collaboration.
4 Singaporean startups travelled to Perth with ACE.SG for West tech Fest. Wenti Labs Pte Ltd, Innova8s Pte Ltd, DRIP.AI and Eight Vectors Pte Ltd also participated in the Global Tech and Innovation Program, led by Invest and Trade Western Australia. The program was one of West Tech Fest 2024’s highlights.
Western Australia’s strategic partnerships play a vital role in strengthening WA’s engagement with Asia, in line with WA Government’s Asian Engagement Strategy to 2030 - Our Future with Asia.
Through this partnership, WA and ACE.SG will collaboratively foster their innovation ecosystems, creating pathways for startups and businesses to thrive in the global economy.
