Our Deputy Director
Simone Spencer | Deputy Director General - Strategy and International Engagement
Simone is the Deputy Director General, Strategy and International Engagement at the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. Simone and her team provide strategic policy advice on state economic development issues and help to both shape and promote investment and trade opportunities.
Key areas of focus for Simone and her team include economic diversification, industry decarbonisation and fostering a cohesive approach to the State’s long-term economic development including leading Invest and Trade Western Australia, the State’s ‘front door’ for investors and exporters.
This year’s Western Australian Export Awards winners unveiled at Gala Dinner
The winners of the 2024 Western Australian Export Awards were announced at the program’s annual Gala Dinner on Thursday 19 September. Held at Crown Perth, the Dinner marked a significant event in the State's calendar, celebrating the achievement of Western Australian businesses exporting home-grown innovation to the world.
Now in its 36th year, the awards program received a record number of applications from 48 different companies, with 27 named as finalists back in September.
The 2024 finalists came together at the Gala Dinner, alongside the program judges, VIPs, and government representatives to celebrate innovation and success in the Western Australian export sector. The formal proceedings of the evening, emceed by Ben Harvey, commenced with a welcome to Country by Nyoongar man Alton Walley, followed by a Welcome Address from Hon Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia.
Guests heard from Deputy Director General of Strategy and International Engagement, Simone Spencer, who emphasised the critical role of Invest and Trade Western Australia in facilitating economic growth and international engagement.
The event was attended by key government officials including Hon Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Energy; Hon David Templeman MLA, Minister for Culture and the Arts; Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy; and Rebecca Brown, Director General of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
Together, the WA Government representatives joined the Premier in presenting the awards to the 2024 winners. Their participation underscored the importance of recognising the contributions of Western Australia’s exporters to the state’s economy
All category award winners will now advance to the Australian Export Awards in Canberra this November, further showcasing the excellence of Western Australian businesses on a national stage.
The 2024 WA Exporter of the Year was awarded to Austral Fisheries, recognising their outstanding contributions to the industry. The company was also the winner of the Sustainability and Green Economy category.
