Abu Dhabi gets a 'Taste of Western Australia'

It was a stunning (and tasty) night beneath the stars as more than 200 guests gathered for the 10th annual Taste of Australia event in Abu Dhabi.
Organised by the Australian Business Group Abu Dhabi, the event brought together business community members from Abu Dhabi and Dubai for an evening of fine Australian food and wine.
Guests gathered on the garden lawn of the Beach Rotana Hotel while feasting on western rock lobster from the Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative and wild-caught octopus from the Fremantle Octopus Group.

They also had the chance to sample Margaret River and Swan Valley wines from Leeuwin Estate and Sandalford Wines.
Present at the event were Nashid Chowdhury, the Western Australia Investment and Trade Commissioner for India-Gulf, representatives of the Dubai Office of the Government of Western Australia, and guest of honour, Her Excellency Heidi Venamore, the Ambassador of Australia to the United Arab Emirates.

In her address to the crowd, Ms Chowdhury highlighted the excellent qualities of the Western Australian products showcased at the event, including environmental sustainability and traceability of supply chain.
The Western Australian products featured at Taste of Australia are currently available on the Emirati market, with a look toward exportation to the rest of the Middle East.
The event also provided networking opportunities for other Western Australian companies keen to start exporting local produce to Dubai, which is a gateway to the Middle East market.
The Gulf Region is a leading export market for Western Australia’s primary industries, with WA regarded as a provider of high quality food and agribusiness commodities within the region.
