Invest and Trade WA hosts biomedical sector briefing for AusMedtech international delegates

Invest and Trade Western Australia (WA) hosted a biomedical sector briefing for international delegates attending AusMedtech 2026 on 19 May 2026.

The Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED) is the proud Host State Sponsor of AusMedtech 2026, organised by AusBiotech.

Held annually, the conference brings together industry leaders to explore the future of healthcare.

The briefing provided delegates with insight into investment and trade opportunities in WA’s fast-growing health sector as well as an overview of the State’s strengths in biomedical research, manufacturing and commercialisation.

Angela Trevethick, Executive Director of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Development, DEED, opened the briefing followed by a Welcome to Country from Walter McGuire OAM.

Sonja Montague-Mackay, Executive Director of Investment Attraction then facilitated a fireside chat exploring WA’s research and technical capabilities. She was joined by:

  • Professor Kevin Pfleger, Director of Biomedical Health and Innovation, University of Western Australia; and
  • Adam Jones, Director of Innovation, Department of Health.

Together, they discussed WA’s world-class health and medical life sciences ecosystem, covering topics from the State’s biomedical precincts to the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund, and how the sector can facilitate strong global partnerships.

The sector is further supported by the WA Government’s Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy and the Health and Medical Research Strategy, investments such as the Future Health and Research Innovation Fund, and technologically advanced hospitals and healthcare facilities.
