WA's energy transformation journey on stage at Singapore International Energy Week

The Hon Bill Johnston MLA, Western Australian Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Corrective Services; Industrial Relations, was invited by Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry to speak at the 15th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) this October.

Organised by the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, SIEW is an annual high-level gathering of energy ministers, policymakers and executives to discuss global energy issues.

While at SIEW, Minister Johnston spoke as a panellist at the Singapore Energy Summit’s session on accelerating low-carbon solutions, participated in the Singapore-International Energy Agency Ministerial Roundtable on energy security, and delivered the keynote address at the 8th Asia LNG and Hydrogen Gas Markets Conference.

During his visit to Singapore, the Minister also met with several of Singapore's ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, the Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng, and Minister of State for Trade and Industry Ms Low Yen Ling.

Minister Johnston also held several productive meetings with key stakeholders in the energy sector, including LNG trading group Pavilion Energy; Keppel Renewable Energy; rare earths company Hasting Technology Metals; and Shell Singapore.

Minister Johnston's meeting with Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry and the chief executive of the Energy Market Authority focused on how Western Australia could be a partner in both Singapore and the region’s decarbonisation objectives.

Minister Johnston’s visit to Singapore served to highlight Western Australia’s successes in the State’s energy transformation journey, underscoring the State Government’s experience in enabling the State’s transition to lower-emissions electricity which underpins the decarbonisation of other sectors of the WA economy.
