Showcasing WA on the world energy stage at ONS 2022 in Norway

ONS 2022 is a global conference and exhibition that assembles high-profile decision-makers as well as global influencers who are engaged in the world’s energy discussion.

This global energy meeting place provides insight and inspiration on the major trends affecting the energy sector and enables Western Australia to attract critical skills and investment into the sector, as well as promote our energy capabilities and capacity.

61,098 people from 82 countries took part in ONS 2022 and Western Australia was the only Australian State to attend this global conference held in Stavanger, Norway. We were accompanied and supported by the Australian Ambassador to Norway, Denmark and Iceland HE Kerin Ayyalaraju, Sarah Rose, Global Talent Manager at the Australian High Commission in the UK and Simon Gunn, Investment Director at Austrade Nordic.

The WA team of government, industry, academia, technology companies and the innovative WA SME winners of ‘LETs Pitch WA’ in the low emission technology space attended the conference opening and sessions, met with a variety of stakeholders including Shell, Norwegian CCS Research Centre, Equinor, Yara and TotalEnergies, hosted a popular networking function at the WA stand, delivered pitches at the Scale-Up arena, and visited AF Gruppen's ‘AF Environmental Base’ decommission yard at Vats, Norway.

At the Australia-Malaysia market session held on day 2, Australian keynote speakers included:

  • Her Excellency Ms Kerin Ayyalaraju (Australian Ambassador to Norway, Denmark and Iceland);

  • Rebecca Brown (Director General, Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation);

  • Voula Terzoudi (Woodside Energy)

  • Francis Norman (CEO and Managing Director, Centre of Decommissioning Australia);

  • Tore Moe (Local Energy Advisor Australia, Norwegian Energy Partners)

The companies that were part of Team WA comprised National Energy Resources Australia, DevelopmentWA, RemSense Technologies, Future Energy Exports Cooperative Research Centre, Diversified Communications Australia (there to promote AOG2023), Woodside Energy, INPEX, Curtin University, Shell Australia, Chevron, Centre of Decommissioning Australia, KC8 Capture, 9 Tech Solutions and Oceania Marine Energy.

The WA Government was proud to partner with industry and talented local businesses representing Western Australia on the world energy stage at ONS 2022. Western Australia offers the world a unique set of strengths and capabilities, from world-class infrastructure, to abundant resources and outstanding research and education and training institutions.
