Perth to host national surf lifesaving event

More than 5,000 surf lifesavers from around Australia are set to make a splash across Perth’s iconic beaches as the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships return to Western Australia in 2022.

The world’s largest surf lifesaving event has the potential to attract more than 8,000 competitors, visitors, spectators and support crew to Western Australia from interstate and overseas.

Western Australia last hosted the event in April 2018, which generated about $15.8 million for the local economy and nearly 69,000 visitor nights, bringing in more than 8,500 interstate and international visitors.

The highly anticipated championships - nicknamed The Aussies - will be held from 2 to 10 April 2022 at Scarborough, Trigg and Secret Harbour beaches.

The Aussies includes more than 480 beach and ocean events, and brings together members from 315 Australian surf clubs.
