Natasha Monks appointed as WA Investment and Trade Commissioner for the Americas region

We're pleased to announce that Natasha Monks has been named as Western Australia's Investment and Trade Commissioner for the Americas.

Ms Monks will oversee the new Invest and Trade Western Australia global network office which is set to open in Austin, Texas in early 2024.

Ms Monks is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Great Southern Development and has previously served as Trade Commissioner for the Australian Government within the Americas and ASEAN regions.

She has a deep knowledge of Western Australia's investment and trade priorities as well as extensive experience in delivering economic development outcomes for regional Western Australia.

In line with her appointment, Ms Monks will join the Invest and Trade WA mission to the United States next week.

Led by Simone Spencer, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation's Deputy Director of Strategy and International Engagement, the delegation will visit the cities of Austin, Houston, Washington DC, Boston and New York.

The mission will meet with investment and venture capitalist firms, US government representatives as well as US companies and other industry stakeholders from WA’s priority sectors of mining and METS, energy transition, health and medical life sciences, space, and tourism.

While in Boston, delegates will also attend Bio 2023, an international biotech convention which attracts more than 14,000 biotechnology and pharma leaders around the world.

The Deputy Premier will host a breakfast event as part of Bio 2023, to promote WA’s biotechnology, medtech and investment opportunities.

With a new Invest and Trade Western Australia office due to open in Austin, Texas in early 2024, the mission aims to strengthen WA-USA relations and explore new trade and investment opportunities with the USA.

The US was WA’s 6th largest trading partner in 2022, with a total trade worth of around $8.7 billion.

The capital of Texas, Austin holds significant potential to further grow investment and trade opportunities for WA across a range of industry areas, including advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, health and medical life sciences, space industries, and creative and digital media technology.

The Americas hub will be the 6th regional hub in Invest and Trade WA’s global network, joining ASEAN, Greater China, India-Gulf, North East Asia and the United Kingdom/Europe.
