Western Australia and JOGMEC commence discussions under new MoU
The first meeting between the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and the Western Australian Government under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on new and renewable energies was held in Perth on 14 March.
A high-level delegation from JOGMEC, led by Mr Koji Yamamoto, Vice President of the Energy Business Unit, met with their Western Australian counterparts to exchange updates on each region’s energy plans and strategies.
The series of briefings included WA Government presentations on Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategies, Renewable Hydrogen Projects and Strategic Land Allocations.
In return, JOGMEC provided an update on the Japanese Government’s strategies and policies toward carbon neutrality.
Representatives from Mitsui E&P Australia, Marubeni and Woodside Energy also attended the briefings to provide updates on their respective low-carbon projects and initiatives.
In the afternoon, the JOGMEC delegation attended the AOG Energy International Delegate Briefing hosted by Invest and Trade Western Australia, where they networked with 80 attendees, including foreign delegations in Perth for the AOG Energy Conference.
The WA-JOGMEC MoU signed in December 2022 focuses on methanation, hydrogen, CCS, CCUS, ammonia, decarbonisation and low emission technologies.
The agreement is aligned with the WA Government’s net zero emissions goals, WA Climate Change Policy and Diversify WA framework.
