Premier Mark McGowan recently spoke at an exclusive London event hosted by Invest and Trade Western Australia (WA) and WA’s UK Agent General John Langoulant AO. The Premier’s Summer Reception was an opportunity for Mr McGowan to network with Western Australian alumni and business leaders during his June visit to the UK.

Mr McGowan’s Reconnect WA mission focused on tourism, renewable energy, skilled migration and economic matters and aimed to support the growth and diversification of the WA economy.

The Western Australian Government continues to strengthen its approach to attracting investment and growing trade with a $195 million Reconnect WA package.

As part of Western Australia’s efforts to expand engagements with the UK, Invest and Trade Western Australia held ‘UK Connect’ on the 4th of August this year.

An event designed to strengthen Western Australia-UK relations and to provide a platform for conversations focusing on trade and investment priorities, complementary capabilities and areas of opportunity. 

The Western Australian Government’s Investment and Trade Office in London has been operating since 1891.

In 2021, the UK was Western Australia’s twelfth largest trading partner, with total trade in goods of over $3 billion.

As a share of Australia’s total trade with the UK, Western Australia ranks second after New South Wales.

In 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK was WA’s largest tourism market.
